By now you might have looked around at systems and found features that got you excited and perhaps also feature lite products
that you know won’t do the job. You may also begin to create your own pro and con list to help you eliminate the inferior
contenders. I cannot emphasize enough, No system will do 100% of what you want, even when you try and pay for it. Taking a step
back, to look at Dear Systems Offering on what they can and cannot do, let us look at some of the highlights, not to mention
drawbacks to consider when going down the decision making path of a Dear System setup.

Landed Costing process in Dear links the supplier
bill to the purchase order.
However, landed costs need to be added to the purchase order via a
manual journal. This can be a little cumbersome, but manageable.
Document Templates can be created in a word
document and uploaded to Dear for Purchasing,
sales, receipts for POS, Picking/Packing, Quoting.
Dear although it has a basic skeleton template which you can use, this is
something you would need to create and upload, which can be
time-consuming.
Selling – Find your top suppliers based on value
using advanced DEAR analytics.
You have the ability to connect with multiple channels in dear, most are
not native however and are usually connected via API or a 3rd Party
Integration Partner.
Manufacturing – Get a holistic, 360-degree view
of your production costs and inventory status.
Dear is not geared to handle Niche Manufacturing, where there would be
multiple BOMs required. The production process can become cumbersome if
you are dealing with multiple production orders at the same time.
Document Templates for Purchasing, Sales,
Picking, Packing can be handled through docx &
word templates and then imported into Dear.
This is a great tool, it does take a bit of time to get your head around
setting this up, give yourself at least an hour, but it will be a useful hour to
be able to produce different templates. So not really a negative.
Hard and Soft Ordering Allocation.
Dear can allocate stock to products once it has been authorized, but if
the picking process is not complete then this is termed as Soft Allocation,
which means the product can be made available for another sale.
Sales Channel – Keep your orders efficiently
tracked across all of your sales channels.
DEAR does have some connections to different channels like Shopify. But it
falls short with having the complete suite of connections that some other
solutions have.
Reporting in Dear enables you to create your own
reports with the fields that are already available.
You cannot create custom fields to pull into reports. Flexibility around
reports is limited to the fields available.
Backordering in Dear is quite simple to manage
and you can run reports to see what is on
backordered.
The Backordering function is flawed in that you do have to do a bit of
searching to understand what is actually on Backorder. When you receipt
stock in, it will not move the backordered item out of the backorder report
until you have updated the sales order with the stock.
3rd Party EDI/3PL
The connection to EDI/3PL is done through a 3rd Party. Who has their own
set of charges and fine print. The connections are not native to DEAR.
POS is supported by DEAR Inventory.
POS across more than 2 branches starts to push the limits of the system.
It is better suited to more boutique retail outlets with one branch at the
most two.

There are so many ways to look at finding a solution, it’s trying to find the right view, with a handful of people
